How foreign institutional investors invest in securities in Taiwan
Foreign institutional investors who are allowed to invest in securities in Taiwan can be divided into two categories: foreign institutional investors outside of Taiwan and foreign institutional investors within Taiwan:
- Foreign Institutional Investors Outside of Taiwan: They are further categorized into fund-type investors and non-fund-type investors. They are also required to designate a Taiwanese agent/custodian institution to complete identity registration with the Taiwan Stock Exchange Corporation, after which they can open a securities trading account with a brokerage firm to buy and sell securities.
- Foreign Institutional Investors Within Taiwan: They are required to contact a brokerage firm to complete identity registration with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, after which they can open a securities trading account to buy and sell securities.
